Question by linlyons: Does "climategate" make you go all dumb?
Did you forget how to read?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwest_Passage

"Until 2009, the Arctic pack ice prevented regular marine shipping throughout most of the year, but climate change has reduced the pack ice, and this Arctic shrinkage made the waterways more navigable."

Did you take, "How to be a parrot" lessons, and practice by repeating hannity's delusions?

Did you forget what glaciers, and lack of glaciers, in the same location imply?

    Or did you never know?

Does a computer hacker make someone else a criminal?
Is there really, "a vast liberal conspiracy" to promote global warming?
Are "liberal scientists" really so dumb that they don't understand that it's cooling?

OR, could there be another explanation?
By the way, i might point out that Watergate was all about the brreak-in.
Not about the material that those who did the deed were intent on stealing.
    <>

Not exactly. (Well, not at all.) From my first link, <> The movement of the ice pack took him across the route. He was frozen into the ice, and couldn't move.

<> Ummm, the northwest passage is over the top of Canada, not farther north in the Atlantic.

    <> yes.

    http://www.history.com/content/titanic/titanic-facts

"The Titanic's final resting place is … 350 miles southeast of Newfoundland, Canada."
Far south of the northwest passage.
Oh man, I gotta start asking more simpleton type questions. It's hard picking a single answer as best. Dana, Amy, Trevor, booM (new around here, and very good), srjh (not the sharpest tools in the shed ;-) were all more than deserving, and i did think, at one time or another, that i'd pick several of them.

in the end, the intertwining of psychology & politics & science won out. (i think — i didn't pick yet.)

I also note a considerable difference between the quality of various answers. And, unfortunately, find it dismaying that that's where our society seems to be heading.

What we're seeing now is the same thing we saw in the early 1900s. They also feared the arctic would vanish, were able to fish much further north, could cross the Atlantic much higher, and met giant floating, melting, icebergs at sea. Remember the Titanic?

EDIT: Yes, but as you probably know, calving icebergs tend to migrate south. You say yourself Titanic crossed far south, and yet encountered an iceberg.
