"Scientists are to hold an emergency summit to warn the world's politicians they are being too timid in their response to global warming.

Climate experts from across the world will gather in Copenhagen next month to agree a stark message to policy makers, which they hope will break the political deadlock on efforts to curb rising temperatures. The meeting follows "disturbing" studies that suggest global warming could strike harder and faster than expected.

Katherine Richardson, a marine biologist at the University of Copenhagen, who is organising next month's event, said: "This is not a regular scientific conference. This is a deliberate attempt to influence policy."

Now for all you conspiracy theorists out there, scientists have nothing to gain monetarily from such a summit. They already have no trouble getting research grants to study climate change, and influencing political policy at this point does not benefit them in any way.

What are your thoughts on this emergency summit?

  • What risk does climate change pose to the developing world?

Posted in Climate on December 29th, 2011 by RoswellUFOs.com

I don't mean this in any flippant or cheeky way, but what is the risk(s) posed by climate change to the developing world?

I ask because virtually every single time I hear the word "climate change", I also hear "developing world" in the same sentence.

P.S: I'd like answers to the question asked, not arguments of whether climate change is a hoax, conspiracy, etc.

  • Just how badly has Science been damaged by climate row?

    Tags: , , , , ,
Posted in Climate on March 20th, 2011 by RoswellUFOs.com

Question by Richie: Just how badly has Science been damaged by climate row?
Leading scientists say that the recent controversies surrounding climate research have damaged the image of science as a whole.

President of the US National Academy of Sciences, Ralph Cicerone, said scandals including the "climategate" e-mail row had eroded public trust in scientists.

His comment came at the annual American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in San Diego.

Dr Cicerone joined other renowned scientists on a panel at the event.

    'Distrust has spread'

He said that the controversial e-mail exchanges about climate change data had caused people to suspect that scientists "oppressed free speech".

His fellow panel members, including Lord Martin Rees, president of the UK's Royal Society, agreed that scientists needed to be more open about their findings.

"There is some evidence that the distrust has spread," Dr Cicerone told BBC News. "There is a feeling that scientists are suppressing dissent, stifling their competitors through conspiracies."

Recent polls, including one carried out by the BBC, have suggested that climate scepticism is on the rise.

Dr Cicerone linked this shift in public feeling to the hacked e-mails and to recently publicised mistakes made by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in one of its key reports.

    'More transparency'

He said he was convinced that these events had had a wider knock-on effect.

"Public opinion polls are showing that the answers to questions like: 'how much do you respect scientists?' or 'are they behaving in disinterested ways?', have deteriorated in the last few months."

He said that this crisis of public confidence should be a wake-up call for researchers, and that the world had now "entered an era in which people expected more transparency".

"People expect us to do things more in the public light and we just have to get used to that," he said. "Just as science itself improves and self-corrects, I think our processes have to improve and self-correct."

In no other science do lay people want to argue with the science, so the politics don't apply to other science. You don't see know-nothing blogging that cancer researchers are dishonest.

The Climate Conspiracy: Exposing The Deceit Of Climate Scientists

The Climate Conspiracy is a damning book which challenges the idea that catastrophic global warming is a threat to the world. In this book, Dr. Robert systematically destroys the claims that hysterical alarmists make about our ever changing world. Read along as we challenge the alarmists for attempting to rewrite history and for ignoring facts about our dynamic earth. After reading this, there is no way you will be able to accept the claims of global warming believers ever again.

  • climate change denialists/conspiracy theorists?

why would the US government be promoting the idea of climate change?
how would this fit into a conspiracy?

both NASA (as partnered with the USAF) and the US Navy have confirmed both global temperature shifts and diminishing polar ice mass…

just wondering out people could fit this into a conspiracy… what would the military/government gain from support of climate change ideas?
"As far as your diminishing ice mass, that is BS. That is from using inappropriate sensors, the gravimetric sensors."
this was determined by sonar evaluation and field study…

do you just make up facts or do you have a reference?

  • The Foxes in the Henhouse: Republicans in Charge of Climate and Energy Committees

    Tags: , , , , , ,
Posted in Climate on January 18th, 2011 by RoswellUFOs.com

Republican midterm gains in Congress have resulted in a shift that has empowered the GOP and crushed hopes for climate and energy legislation. In the House of Representatives, Republicans are getting ready to take control of several powerful committees that have a direct impact on energy and the environment.

Five Republicans stand to gain in particular: Fred Upton, Joe Barton, Doc Hastings, Darrell Issa and Jim Sensenbrenner.

Fred Upton (R-Michigan) is by far the most rational of these five Republicans on the environment. Upton is one of the frontrunners to lead the Energy and Commerce Committee in 2011.

Unlike some of his peers, Upton acknowledges that global warming is real. He told the energy committee early last year: "I have said at nearly every climate change hearing that for me I don't dispute the science. Right or wrong, the debate over the modelling and science appears to be over." He was an architect of the incandescent light bulb ban, and he has cast votes in opposition to oil and gas production from offshore areas. However, Upton can be expected to try to limit the powers of the Environmental Protect Agency (EPA).

Joe Barton (R-Texas) also wants to lead the Energy and Commerce Committee but he needs a waiver to bypass GOP committee term-limit rules to become chairman. He won notoriety this summer when he apologised to BP for the White House deal establishing a bn oil clean-up fund. Barton called the fund a "shakedown".

If denied the energy and commerce committee, Barton could be a contender to head the science committee, which would provide him with a platform to preach his climate science denial. He also has his sights set on reducing the power of the EPA.

In a letter welcoming the winning Republicans to the House, Barton congratulated them on their "well-deserved victory," and he foreshadowed his leadership when he wrote, "When I am chairman, you won't find any Democrats applauding."

Doc Hastings (R -Washington), is currently in the Natural Resources Committee, he will likely serve as its chairman in the 112th Congress. His pro-energy record on energy production will likely translate to more fossil fuel developments on federal lands, both onshore and offshore.

Darrell Issa (R-California) is a high school drop-out who was arrested in his youth for auto theft, it is more than a bit ironic that he will have far-ranging subpoena power in the new Congress.

Issa is now poised to become chairman of the House Government Oversight and Reform Committee. As chairman of the most powerful oversight committee in the new Republican House, Issa will have enormous power.

Despite thousands of independent studies that support climate change, Issa says it is time to take yet another look at the science. "That doesn't mean that global warming isn't happening," Issa conceded, but he wants to buy more time by saying the issue of climate change requires more study. (This is a common Republican strategy designed to indefinitely forestall action on climate change).

Even though the so called "climategate" scientists were cleared by five separate inquiries, Issa recently told POLITICO that he would use his panel to conduct further inquiries into the stolen "climategate" e-mails. And he also plans to keep a close watch on the EPA. Issa has indicated that he would like to kill the committee on energy independence and global warming.

Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wisconsin), is on the select committee on energy independence and global warming, he wants to keep the Committee alive so it can investigate climate science and police President Barack Obama's green policies. Sensenbrenner would like to take over that committee, even though he thinks global warming is an international conspiracy.

Sensenbrenner is a climate denier of the first order. At the height of the controversy over hacked emails from East Anglia last year, he warned of "a massive international scientific fraud" and science "fascism." On his web site, Sensenbrenner indicates that he believes the Obama administration is part of a global climate conspiracy.
