Its restricted air space so they would probably request you leave the area or be shot down.

you would not make it area 51 there is a large buffer zone first where they will intercept you and yes shoot you down, but if you comply you will be detained and questioned. I would like to know why? I guess stupid is as stupid does.

i always wanted to buy a cheapo cessna,paint it flat black,no numbers or lights and fly it low and slow over area 51.i imagine if you approached there air space from say 5 miles out they would shoot u down with a quickness.another option is to go to a hobby store and get a remote control plane and attach some kinda cam corder on it.it would prob be too small to detect on radar,they would prob think it was just a bird.try it and find out,let us all know what happens

Assuming you could FIND area 51, you have two problems. One – the flight plan you'd have to file would be rejected immediately.
Second – assuming you were able to get even close enough, the air force would "escort" you away. The fighter jets would in approximately this order: try radio contact, try visual contact, distrub your airflow (use your imagination), fire warning bursts with guns, then likely vaporize you with a missle.
As Far as what's legal, with a place like that, you'll never get the benefit of the doubt. Shoot first.
Area 51, also known as the groom lake facility is nestled quite snugly in the middle a a massive military complex.
You can't get near any military base these days, and I think an F-15 would have the advantage over a piper cub.

It is the government man! There is no such thing as legal and illegal to them. If they thought you may have seen something you shouldn't have then you would be blown to pieces, end of story. If they did not have any secrets laying about, then you may be lucky enough to get a fighter jet escort to the nearest landing spot and be arrested.

They can shoot you down right away if they want… if it is a GA airplane they will most likely intercept it and issue warnings VIA radio… if you comply and follow all directions, you will be told to land at which point you will be arrested, have your licenses revoked and be asked ALOT of questions…

Fighter pilots find having to destroy a civilian aircraft extremely distasteful. ANY unauthorized vehicle, aircraft or otherwise, including R/C models, would be spotted well before entry to the crucial areas, so even the attempt is silly. Someone said contact would be attempted by radio, visual, then warning shots prior to actual effective fire and they were correct. What ALOPILOT says is also correct, and you don't want to fool with military CID. The overflight would be pointless in any event, even if you managed to get there. Anything of importance is under cover. All you'd see is runways and hangars and a few buildings. You can see that on Google Earth. A wise pilot knows his geographical position and avoids restricted airspace.

You would 1st here over the radio you are entering a military zone that is restricted please veer off immediately. Then you would see a pair of fighters join you and escort you to the nearest military or civil airport other than area 51. Then you would have a long talk with the FAA and The nice people at homeland security all of whom will make your life hell for the next few weeks or months depending on there mood that week. If you actually broke into that air space you could see some jail time but more likely you would lose your license and pay a massive fine.

You would not get there. I have flown through the area many many times, but never within the secured airspace. You would have a friend on your wing tip before you ever got there.
After they follow you and order you down, they take your license and put you in jail. If you refuse to follow them, the license is the least of your problem.

The first thing you would see is a military fighter close off your wing, attempting to identify and contact visually. They won't even try the radio (too many frequencies). At this point, they will attempt contact on VHF 121.5 (standard intercept protocol) and then fly across your path, generally left to right. They will then fly in the direction they wish you to go in. If you fail to obey, they will once again pull in alongside, but closer. If they don't receive any indication of your intentions to change your ways, they will then disappear from view, at which point, you will disappear from view.

Area 51 is to the North and a bit West of Las Vegas. Do a Google Earth search for it and you will find it there. The airspace is in restricted area R4808 and is restricted from the surface to unlimited, this means no one not even jet liners can fly over it. And R4808 is huge. Area 51 is well inside the middle of that airspace. You would be warned by radio escorted and or even shot out of the sky long before you ever got close to area 51.

They'd send an escort out, he would try and raise you on the radio, he'd wiggle his wings at you as a signal to follow him, at which point you would (if you have half a brain). (if you left that half a brain at home) you'd get the warning shots, then the quick trip to the desert floor.

You'd be better off hacking a satellite, acquiring complete control, and then directing its position over Area 51 while hoping not to collide with other satellites and space debris. And after all this you'd be disappointed, get arrested, go to jail for many years, get blacklisted, defect to a nation with inferior technology, you'd contemplate the scarcity of razors in Soviet Russia, and go insane.

from what i hear, i think they would act almost the same way they did when a pilot accidently flew within the restricted are around the white house…. scramble some fighters up and get visual identification, somehow communicate for you to land or follow them, if u don't comply, they would fall back and fire a warning burst from there m61's, supposebly 104 rounds a second…. and after that i would imagine they would try and get clearence to shoot you down if they don't already have it….

If your pictures taking from a satellite in space, nothing. Of course you want see see much except runway and buildings. You can bet they know when there are satellites are going to be over head and thus prepare accordingly.
